Brookelin grew up in Reisterstown, MD, where she began taking dance classes at age 3. Since then, her feet have lead her to the study of several movement techniques.

Her dance training includes ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop, pop, tap, lyrical, African and Balinese. While in high school she studied at The Ballet school of Glyndon, The Peabody Conservatory and The Ballet Academy of Baltimore, with Marilyn Gaston. She attended her first 2 years of college at California Institute of the Arts and then graduated in 2000, with a BFA in modern dance, from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

At age 18, Brookelin was introduced to Iyengar yoga through her dance training at CalArts. After moving to Philly, she began studying Ashtanga yoga with Miko Doi Smith. She continued taking classes at The Downward Dog Yoga Centre in Toronto, Canada and then returned back to Maryland where she was introduced to Anusara yoga. She completed a year long Anusara Teacher training program at Willow Street Yoga in 2004. She trained with senior Anusara teachers Suzie Hurley, Jenny Otto, Moses Brown and Joe Brown. She has attended several workshops with john friend, the founder of Anusara, and she continues to take classes and attend trainings with her favorite instructors. Brookelin is an Affilated Anusara Instructor and an RYT 200.

Brookelin has also studied Anusara with Kathleen Hogan, Kathy Donnelly, Paul and Sommer Sobin, Marc St. Pierre and Jennifer Lynn. She is grateful for all the inspiring instructors who have helped her along her way!

For 4 years, Brookelin taught yoga, pilates and dance at The JCC of Greater Baltimore in Owings Mills. She also was the Group Fitness and Dance Coordinator for 1 year there. She taught dance and yoga at a variety of locations in Maryland; Karen Sachs Dance Academy, Carroll County Dance Center, Garrison Forest School, Merritt Athletic Club in Owings Mills, Gambler’s Anonymous, special classes at Goucher College, and Comprehensive Survival Arts. She also worked for HERO Entertainment as an EmCee, coordinator, party motivator and dancer. She has a strong passion for party coordination and event organization.

In December of 2006, Brookelin moved to Maui, Hawaii to be by the ocean and to continue her teaching. There she taught classes at The Studio Maui, Maui Lotus Yoga and Vibe Studios. She also worked as a wedding coordinator and wedding photographer’s assistant while on the beautiful island.

In August of 2006, Brookelin traveled to Bali with Jennifer Lynn, to assist her yoga retreat. Brookelin says that Bali brought her more comfort and peace with herself. “The way the Balinese treat everything they come in contact with, with such passion and meaning, is so inspiring! The simple way of life that these individuals live made me realize what is really important to me. The love and light in their eyes and the kindness that radiates from their hearts was uplifting!”

Brookelin received her Red Belt Budokon Teacher certification in December of 2006 and loves teaching this art form in her community. This combination of yoga, martial arts and meditation was founded by Cameron Shayne in 2000. Being able to open the body in new ways and create more mobility in the spine is a true adventure that Brookelin hopes to continue on.
